andy goldsworthy
I was blissfully naive about the popularity of Andy Goldsworthy until Rivers and Tides arrived in the local cinema. I strolled over one night to catch the screening and discovered a long line all the way around the block. The show had been sold out before I even considered seeing a movie that night.
Is it silly to feel that something becomes less precious when it is loved by the masses? Is it silly to suppose that consumerism can cheapen art? These were the questions on my mind weeks later, when I was finally able to snatch up a ticket to see the movie.
As the lights dimmed and I nestled into a velvety theatre seat, my concerns immediately evaporated. I was absorbed in awe.
open fields, seashores, riverbanks
patterns of harmonious grace
as long as a few days
as short as a minute
a light breeze
an eddying tide
a frequency of symmetrical order
terra firma's chaos
hypnotically dazzling
ARTHISTORY
